The used LCV market has become highly fragmented due to smaller businesses’ caution over interest rates and cashflow when considering replacement vans and pick-ups.

As a result, no single type of LCV dominates Aston Barclay’s June desirability index as dealers focus on sourcing more affordable options for their customers.

Heading the index is the Citroen Relay, followed by the VW Amarok and the Mercedes Vito. The presence of a large panel van, a pick-up, and a mid-size panel van in the top three highlights the current fragmentation of the market.

The index features four medium-size LCVs: the Mercedes Vito, Mercedes Citan, VW Transporter, and Ford Transit Custom. Meanwhile, the Citroen Relay, Peugeot Boxer, and IVECO Daily indicate sustained demand for larger panel vans. Additionally, three pick-ups -the VW Amarok, Toyota HiLux, and Isuzu D-Max – round out the top 10.

Geoff Flood, Aston Barclay’s head of LCV, said: “The market has slowed since Christmas, and dealers are working harder to sell used LCVs to SMEs still feeling the pinch of higher interest rates and a higher cost of living. Many SMEs are holding onto their current LCVs longer, but this cannot continue indefinitely as vehicles age and become more costly to maintain.”
