Boeing Defense and the Machinists Union have reached

a tentative deal ending a five week

00:05.000 –> 00:09.439

long strike in Saint Louis.

An official vote on the new five-year contract is

00:09.439 –> 00:16.319

scheduled for Friday, September 12th.

All 3200 members of the IAM District 837 Union

00:16.319 –> 00:22.590

went on strike August 4th following a 67%

rejection vote on the company’s previous

00:22.590 –> 00:26.799

contract proposal.

A previous offer included a $5000 bonus and a

00:26.799 –> 00:29.350

20% wage increase over four years.

00:29.790 –> 00:33.139

which would have raised compensation on average

by 40%,

00:33.310 –> 00:38.430

but many of the fighter jet builders have seen

previous raises offset by rising cost of living

00:38.430 –> 00:42.669

expenses.

The new accepted contract includes a 45%

00:42.669 –> 00:47.419

average wage growth, as workers will receive a

24% wage increase.

00:47.669 –> 00:50.430

Alternatively, workers will receive a $4000

00:50.983 –> 00:55.662

bonus on top of previously offered additional

vacation and sick leave.

00:55.833 –> 01:02.393

Comparatively, IAM District 751’s seven-week

strike dating back to late last year in

01:02.393 –> 01:09.072

Washington and Oregon, resulted in a 38% wage

increase with a $12,000 signing bonus.

01:09.193 –> 01:13.905

Once fully approved, workers are expected to

return Monday as production begins once again.

01:14.115 –> 01:17.666

Normal production flow is expected to return in

about a week’s time.

01:17.875 –> 01:22.206

Throughout the five week period, non-union

employees have kept production afloat,

01:22.496 –> 01:26.225

though output slowed across various programs.

On September 4th,

01:26.475 –> 01:29.456

Boeing announced a plan to bring on replacement

workers.

01:29.716 –> 01:32.356

Now.
