00:00.009 –> 00:04.409

Blue Diamond has announced plans to wind down

operations at its plant in Sacramento,

00:04.730 –> 00:07.949

California, cutting some 600 jobs in the

process.

00:08.079 –> 00:14.439

The company says it was founded in 1910 to

ensure the long-term success of small

00:14.439 –> 00:19.229

multi-generational almond farmers and their

families in California.

00:19.440 –> 00:24.270

To keep that mission on track, the company must

shutter its plant in Midtown Sacramento,

00:24.600 –> 00:29.000

transferring most manufacturing operations from

its 53 acre site.

00:29.420 –> 00:32.209

To facilities in Turlock and Solita, California.

00:32.459 –> 00:36.700

While the company’s legacy spans more than a

century, Kai Bachman,

00:36.860 –> 00:42.500

president and CEO of Blue Diamond Growers, says

the challenges of running a plant from these

00:42.500 –> 00:46.569

historical buildings has become too costly and

inefficient.

00:46.700 –> 00:51.770

Bachman said, quote, streamlining our

manufacturing plants is the right business move

00:51.770 –> 00:56.790

to further strengthen our market leading

position and bring increased value to our

00:56.790 –> 01:01.111

grower.

Members on June 6, 2025, Bachman met with

01:01.111 –> 01:03.751

employees at the Sacramento plant to break the

news.

01:03.872 –> 01:08.711

The transition will begin later this year when

the company cuts roughly 10% of the plant

01:08.711 –> 01:11.902

employees.

The remaining cuts will occur in phased

01:11.902 –> 01:15.611

reductions over the next 18 to 24 months.

Bachmann added,

01:15.772 –> 01:18.741

quote, Even though most employees will not

leave this year,

01:18.991 –> 01:22.741

we want to be transparent and tell our people

as soon as possible.

01:22.912 –> 01:28.164

We are committed to putting in the energy, time,

and Resources to help our impacted team members.

01:28.283 –> 01:32.884

The company is providing incentives for workers

to stay during the transition and will offer

01:32.884 –> 01:36.323

severance and outplacement services for laid

off employees.

01:36.444 –> 01:40.524

Some workers will have a chance to relocate to

other Blue Diamond locations.

01:40.683 –> 01:45.844

Blue Diamond has some 1400 employees spread

throughout the processing plants and receiving

01:45.844 –> 01:49.793

stations.

The company will remain based in Sacramento.

01:49.963 –> 01:52.884

Now the cooperative is looking for

opportunities from perspective.

01:52.986 –> 01:58.125

Investors who may be interested in purchasing

the large site near downtown Sacramento.

01:58.295 –> 02:05.055

Blue Diamond Growers is a 115 year old almond

cooperative that represents some 3000 almond

02:05.055 –> 02:06.246

growers in California.

02:06.456 –> 02:11.725

The company is credited with bringing the

benefits of Big Almond to the world.

02:11.975 –> 02:15.416

We reached out to Blue Diamond for more

information, but the company did not

02:15.416 –> 02:19.085

immediately respond to our request for comments.

I’m David Manti.

02:19.296 –> 02:20.686

This is manufacturing now.
