Vehicle remarketer BCA has launched a EV battery health grading service, making it the first in the uk remarketing sector to provide detailed battery health information to prospective electric vehicle (EV) buyers.
This new grading system is designed to empower customers with vital battery insights, allowing them to purchase EVs with increased confidence.
BCA reports record-breaking used EV sales in 2024, the company is on track to sell over 40,000 units in the next year.
To support this growing demand, the BCA Battery Health Grading service provides an at-a-glance view of an EV’s traction battery condition.
Each vehicle is assigned a grade from A to E, along with a precise numbered score based on the Aviloo comprehensive and manufacturer-independent ‘Flash Test,’ which not only assesses battery health but also detects potential battery defects.
By connecting the Aviloo test box to the vehicle’s On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) interface, the test captures a clear snapshot of the battery’s remaining capacity, reflected as a score between 0 and 100.
Additionally, the test flags any defective battery modules, giving buyers critical information about the overall health and reliability of the battery.
To ensure ease of access, the Battery Health Grading is prominently displayed on each vehicle’s detail page, in vehicle search results, and on Live Bidding screens. Following the sale, buyers also gain access to the complete Aviloo FLASH Test report.
BCA COO Stuart Pearson commented “EV volumes in our online auctions are growing significantly year on year and we continue to refine the remarketing process in support of this sector. Thanks to our continued investment in infrastructure and supporting services, our customers remain best placed when it comes to selling or buying used electric vehicles.”
Marcus Berger, CEO of the test provider Aviloo said: “ The Aviloobattery health test covers 95% of all available EV brands meaning it is a great fit with BCA’s extensive online remarketing programmes across the UK and Europe. Driving increased confidence, along with a transparent process remains key to the ongoing development of the used EV landscape, and we’re very happy to be partnering with BCA on this initiative.“
Stuart Pearson added: “The new BCA battery health grading helps our buyer customers to bid on electric vehicles with complete confidence and make more informed decisions when buying. The service offers absolute transparency with unbiased testing and grading, providing a reusable report that will further help the retail process. For our sellers, the report will provide the opportunity to resolve any issues in advance of the sale event, along with optimising residual values by removing any uncertainty discounting.“
“The most successful EV trade buyers at BCA understand the marketplace well and use their product knowledge to dispel the myths surrounding EVs, providing their customers with increased confidence. This new initiative will provide valuable additional support to our customers as the used EV market continues to grow and help everyone with the onward sales process when these vehicles are retailed.”
