Audi has confirmed it will bring back the A2 nameplate for the first time since 2005, with the launch of a new entry-level A2 e-tron EV.
The model will sit at the entry point of Audi’s EV range and is designed to broaden access to the brand’s electric offering, particularly in urban markets where demand for compact EVs continues to grow.
It’s expected that the new A2 e-tron will replace the A1 and Q2 in Audi’s line-up.
The new model sits on the same MEB+ platform that underpins the VW ID.3 and Cupra Born.
Production will take place at Audi’s Ingolstadt plant in Germany, supporting the manufacturer’s wider push to electrify its European manufacturing base.

Audi chief executive Gernot Döllner said the new model reflects customer demand for more practical and accessible EVs.
He said: “We’ve listened. Our customers want electric mobility that impresses in everyday life.
“The A2 e-tron is our promise to deliver exactly that – efficient, compact, and confident. We’re making entry into the electric Audi world easier and more relevant than ever.”
The original Audi A2, discontinued in 2005, was positioned as a lightweight and efficient urban car. Audi said the new A2 e-tron will carry that focus into the electric era, targeting customers looking for usability, efficiency and digital connectivity in a compact format.
The launch forms part of Audi’s wider product strategy following more than 20 new models introduced across 2024 and 2025.
The brand plans to continue expanding its line-up at both the entry point and the upper end of the market, including the addition of the A2 e-tron and the upcoming Q9.
Döllner said: “The A2 e-tron is crucial for our brand. With the production of an additional fully electric model family in Ingolstadt, we are securing jobs and delivering electric mobility ‘made in Germany’.”
First official images and more details on the A2 e-tron will be confirmed later this year.
