Average business electricity bills have fallen by 17% quarter on quarter to £4,804, according to a report.

The data collected by energy software provider POWWR shows small businesses have seen the most significant drop of 19.5% and are now paying just £1,194 for electricity annually. Those who use gas have experienced even bigger falls with prices an average 40.8% lower than in Q2.

Businesses in North Wales now pay the most for their electricity out of all the regions, paying 30.6% more than their neighbours in South Wales.

David Sheldrake, CRO, POWWR said: “There is no doubt that businesses in the UK have become increasingly savvy at limiting their energy use. So much so that they are using significantly less energy than they were six months ago.”

The data also revealed that energy usage has also dropped across the UK to 19,668kWh, which is 6.4% less than last quarter and 10% less than the same period last year.

The biggest decreases can be seen in North East England and South Wales, meaning the biggest consumers of energy are now firms in London and South East England. Both use over 5,000kWh more per annum than in the North East.
