Foton will enter the UK pick-up market in early 2027 with the Tunland double cab, through its partnership with distributor International Motors.
The launch will expand International Motors’ light commercial vehicle portfolio, although details of Foton’s UK sales and aftersales network have yet to be announced. UK pricing, final specifications and model availability will also follow ahead of the vehicle’s introduction.
The Tunland pick-up broadens Foton’s launch range beyond electric vans, giving the developing network products for both commercial fleet and pick-up customers.
It joins Foton’s Cavan C1 electric van range which made its first UK appearance at this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show. The Cavan line-up will comprise three models intended to cover different load and operational requirements. The standard Cavan C1 will be joined by the extended-length C1 Plus and the longer, taller C1 Max.
The Tunland is aimed at both business and private customers, combining a five-seat double cab and load bed with an emphasis on passenger comfort and everyday usability. Foton previewed the brand at the Commercial Vehicle Show earlier this year.
Mild-hybrid diesel leads UK launch
The pick-up will use a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Foton said its multi-link rear suspension was designed to improve ride quality, particularly when the vehicle is unladen.
Cabin equipment includes a central touchscreen, digital instrument display, physical controls, automatic climate control, wireless smartphone charging, driver-assistance technology and an opening panoramic roof. Final UK equipment specifications remain subject to confirmation as are payload, towing capacity, fuel consumption or emissions figures.
David Clark, brand manager at Foton UK, said: “The Foton Tunland represents our ambition to offer UK buyers a compelling alternative in the pick-up market, combining strikingly bold looks and the practical qualities they need with the comfort, technology and design they increasingly expect from their vehicles.
“Foton has many global commercial and engineering partnerships, meaning this is not just another Chinese entrant in the UK market. The result of this technical collaboration is a versatile mild-hybrid pick-up that can suit almost every requirement, be it business or pleasure, and we are eager to showcase the vehicle to the UK audience.”
Beijing-headquartered Foton was founded 30 years ago and manufactures commercial vehicles ranging from pick-ups and vans to trucks and buses.
The company says it has sold more than 13 million vehicles globally since its inception, with electric trucks, vans and buses already established in European markets including Italy, Germany and Malta.
