John Swinney, First Minister of Scotland, has said his country is ready to work with India on renewables at the Renewable Energy India Expo 2026 in Delhi this week.
He highlighted opportunities for greater collaboration between the two countries in areas such as offshore wind, hydrogen, grid technologies and clean energy innovation, as well as promoting Scotland as a destination for investment.
Mr Swinney said: “Scotland and India are natural partners in the energy transition. Scotland and India share a common ambition: to build prosperous, modern economies powered by clean energy, innovation and international partnerships.
“If we work together, we can help ensure that more of the economic benefits of the energy transition are felt in our communities, support our businesses and create lasting opportunities for people in both of our countries.
“That is why I am here today: Scotland is ready to be a partner in India’s energy transition. And together, we can realise our ambitions by combining Scottish expertise and innovation with India’s scale, talent and capability.”
Scotland and India have worked together on energy and renewable technology for more than 15 years.
In 2009, the two governments signed a memorandum of understanding to support innovation in wind, solar and biofuels, alongside collaboration between universities and research institutes on technologies including wave and tidal power.
