The Competition and Markets Authority has rejected an appeal made by RWE after a proposal to shift transmission costs to consumers was made.

The proposal would have caused any unexpected transmission costs from certain generators to be piled onto consumers. This was rejected by Ofgem in May this year.

Ofgem have responded to the CMA’s decision, saying its own rejection was in the consumers interest.

A spokesperson from Ofgem said: “We welcome the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) decision which vindicates Ofgem’s rejection of a proposal (CMP 344) to shift a greater share of certain unexpected transmission costs from certain generators onto consumers.

“Had this proposal gone ahead it would have further added to consumers bills, at a time when many are struggling with the cost of living. Our decision was made after careful assessment of all the evidence, and we remain focused on protecting consumer interests while helping to deliver a clean, reliable and secure energy system.”

RWE’s proposed to appeal on the 26th of May this year.
