A 100MW renewable hydrogen plant in Portugal will soon be digitalised and is expected to deliver energy savings of up to 15%.
The project is also expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 110,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent each year.
Operated by Siemens, the plan is to deploy a digital twin, designed to provide real-time operational insights.
Axel Lorenz, Executive Vice President of Automation Process Industries at Siemens, said: “We are convinced that digital innovation is the key to making renewable hydrogen economically viable and accelerating the decarbonisation of industry. Siemens is turning this ambition into industrial reality – at scale.”
The plant is expected to produce up to 15,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen annually, powered by renewable electricity sourced through long-term supply agreements and Galp’s own renewable generation capacity.
The GalpH2Park facility is expected to start operating at the end of the year and become one of Europe’s largest renewable hydrogen plants.
