Arbury Motor Group has acquired five dealerships from Sutton Park Group.

The takeover, for an undisclosed sum, adds Renault and Dacia to Arbury’s franchise portfolio and expands its sales and aftersales coverage across the Midlands.

The acquisition covers dealerships in Birmingham, Tamworth, Warwick, Stourbridge and Burton-on-Trent, each offering vehicle sales and servicing. They are due to open under the Arbury name on October 5.

The deal takes AM100 dealer group Arbury’s brand portfolio to 12, following the recent addition of Chery at its dealerships on Berrington Road in Leamington Spa and Stratford Road in Solihull.

Arbury, which is the trading brand of Cathedral Motor Company, said the acquired businesses complement its existing territory and strengthen its presence in markets it already understands.

It leaves Sutton Park Group with just two dealerships, both operating Kia franchises, at Coventry and Sutton Coldfield.

Renault and Dacia join the portfolio

Ben Archer, managing director at Arbury Group, said: “We’re thrilled to be the new home of Renault and Dacia. Over our 26-year history, we’ve built a loyal customer base, and the new brands align perfectly with our ambition to provide them with an outstanding choice of vehicles across the Midlands.

“Both brands have been part of our acquisition strategy for some time, and we already have very positive relationships with the Renault UK leadership team – giving us confidence in the partnership and in what we can achieve together.”

The additions extend a franchise portfolio that already includes Peugeot, Nissan, Škoda, Fiat, Abarth, Seat, Cupra, Leapmotor, Citroën and Chery.

Both new franchises sit within Renault Group, giving Arbury access to model ranges including the Renault 5 E-Tech electric and Dacia Sandero.

Acquisition strengthens Midlands reach

Arbury said Sutton Park’s local reputation and approach to customers and employees were factors in the acquisition.

Archer added: “Like Sutton Park Group, we pride ourselves on providing an outstanding and professional service. Both businesses are family-first and people-centric. We firmly believe these new branches – and the hard-working sales and service teams within them – will both complement and enhance our portfolio, as well as giving them the opportunity to further their careers with Arbury.

“The new locations complement our existing territory extremely well, strengthening our presence in markets we already understand. We strongly believe in the Renault and Dacia vehicle line-ups of today and, importantly, of tomorrow. We can’t wait to develop our relationships with these innovative, world-renowned brands.”

Cooper Parry’s automotive deals team advised Arbury on the transaction.

Sam Rotherham, of Cooper Parry, said: “It has been great to work alongside Ben and the experienced team at Arbury throughout the transaction. Adding Renault and Dacia to the Arbury portfolio of brands is an exciting development for the Group, and all at Cooper Parry are enthusiastic to follow the continued growth of the business”.

Arbury was established in 2000 and has expanded across Birmingham, Warwickshire and the West Midlands. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed in the announcement.
