Big Motoring World has reported annual turnover above £1bn for the first time, with broader stock sourcing, a revised pricing strategy and increased uptake of finance and additional products supporting growth.

The used car dealer group increased turnover by 28% to £1,099.7m in the year ended December 31, 2025, compared with £859.1m in 2024. Retail vehicle volumes rose 20.1%, taking annual sales above 60,000 cars for the first time.

Trading profit increased to £10.8m from £6.6m, a rise of 63.6%. The group defines this measure as earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, amortisation and exceptional items, rather than statutory pre-tax profit.

Gross profit rose 26.4% to £61m from £48.2m. However, turnover grew slightly faster, leaving the gross margin at approximately 5.5%, compared with 5.6% a year earlier.

Stock sourcing supports growth

Big Motoring World said it continued to broaden its vehicle supply channels during 2025 while supporting the development of three dealerships added to its network in 2024.

Higher sales volumes and improved uptake of finance and other value added products contributed to the gross profit increase. The group said finance commissions and product revenues showed particularly strong year-on-year growth during the second half.

The business also continued investing in its customer proposition and identified its new pricing strategy as a driver of the year’s performance.

Laurence Vaughan, chief executive at Big Motoring World, said: “The used vehicle market remained volatile in 2025, requiring a level of resilience that Big Motoring World was ideally equipped to deliver. Our strong and diverse supply channels will be developed further in 2026 to unlock more volume and strengthen our EV proposition.

“We are putting outstanding customer service and the development of the best and most engaged team in our sector at the centre of our strategy. 2025 was a year of putting the foundations in place to continue our growth as the leading used car supermarket in the UK.”

Workforce grows as EV plans develop

Big Motoring World created a net 210 roles during 2025 and said its workforce now exceeds 1,500. The group also reported improved staff retention and employee engagement.

Its 11 dealerships are in West Malling, Blue Bell Hill, Enfield, Peterborough, Wimbledon, Leeds, Cannock, Sheffield, Norwich, Camberley and Warrington.

The group said its vehicle preparation operations have capacity to process around 80,000 vehicles annually, with cars undergoing a 200-point inspection.

Further development of its supply channels and electric vehicle proposition forms part of its plans for 2026, alongside continued investment in customer service and its workforce.
