Speakers at the UN Climate Summit have said that climate change is no longer a “future threat but a present reality” as the experts and world leaders demand urgent action to resolve it.
The UN has also warned that solving climate change threats is a “decisive test of global solidarity.”
The leaders have also stressed that there are existing solutions such as accelerating the clean energy transition, expanding infrastructure, unlocking affordable climate finance and ensuring vulnerable countries are not left behind.
Countries that contribute the least to climate change have been deemed as those facing the biggest threat from issues such as rising sea levels.
The UN says 770 million people live in coastal areas are affected by this, as just a half-metre rise by the end of the century could force up to 300 million people from their homes.
World leaders have said that the transition to clean energy is already delivering ‘tangible results’ and renewable energy is now an economic and environmental imperative.
