Dacia expects every version of its second-generation Spring electric car to be priced below £18,000 before any government incentives.
Full UK prices, specifications and launch timings will be announced later, but the target would position the new Spring among the cheapest electric cars available today.
The completely redesigned A-segment model is the first of four new electric cars included in Dacia’s product roadmap to 2030 and replaces a Spring that has recorded more than 210,000 sales across over 40 countries since its introduction in 2021.
Unlike its predecessor, the new Spring will be manufactured in Europe at Renault Group’s Novo Mesto factory in Slovenia.
It uses the new RG-EV Small platform and is the first Dacia developed through a faster Renault Group programme intended to reduce vehicle development time to less than two years and lower costs.
155-mile range and rapid charging
The new Spring is powered by an 80hp electric motor producing 175Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0-62mph in 12.1 seconds and has a top speed of around 81mph.
Its 27.5kWh usable-capacity LFP battery provides a WLTP combined range of up to 155 miles, while energy consumption is rated at 12.7kWh per 62 miles.
A 6.6kW onboard AC charger is standard. Charging from 15% to 80% takes two hours and 55 minutes using a 7kW home charger or nine hours from a domestic socket.
An optional Charge Pack adds an 11kW AC charger and 50kW DC capability. The latter reduces the 15% to 80% charging time to 28 minutes.
The pack also provides vehicle-to-load technology, allowing the car to power equipment such as lights, coffee makers and electric bicycle batteries.
At 3.85 metres long and 1.74 metres wide, the new Spring is 15cm longer and 18cm wider than the previous model. Boot capacity has also increased to 337 litres or 1,283 litres with the rear seats folded. An optional storage compartment under the bonnet provides another 18 litres.
Expression and Journey trims
Dacia will offer the new Spring in Expression and Journey trim levels, both using the same battery, motor and standard charger.
Expression includes 15-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, electric front windows and mirrors, rear parking sensors, an electric parking brake and a seven-inch digital instrument display.
Its Media Control system allows drivers to manage entertainment and telephone functions through a connected smartphone.
Journey adds 16-inch wheels, keyless entry, a reversing camera, upgraded upholstery and the Media Nav Live system.
The Journey infotainment package features a 10.1-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected navigation and access to services including charging schedules, cabin pre-conditioning and vehicle tracking.
All versions receive automatic headlights, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, a reach and height-adjustable steering wheel and Dacia’s My Safety function for customising selected driver assistance settings. Four exterior colours will be available: Agave, Shadow Grey, Diamond Black and Glacier White.
