Transparency as a Market Pillar
Developed and operated by Unicorn, the ENTSO-E New Transparency Platform serves as the digital backbone of the European electricity market. It guarantees transparent access to crucial data, including electricity prices, cross-border energy flows, and renewable generation statistics. Providing regulators, analysts, and energy companies with standardized data is a fundamental prerequisite for preventing market speculation and ensuring market stability.
Daniel Ševčík, Director of Unicorn Grid Systems, emphasized that transparency is not merely a regulatory hurdle, but a foundation of trust. The team’s core objective was to ensure that critical grid and market data remains entirely accessible, understandable, and usable for both industry experts and the general public.
Scaling for the Renewable Transition
The massive expansion of renewable energy sources and increasingly interconnected European grids demanded a complete architectural overhaul of the platform. To meet these modern needs, Unicorn Systems delivered a future-proof technological foundation that currently supports:
- Approximately 100 data providers across dozens of European nations.
- Over 90,000 registered users, ranging from regulators to researchers.
- Tens of millions of daily API requests.
- Hundreds of thousands of processed messages.
Executing a Flawless Migration
Because the transparency platform acts as critical infrastructure for the single European electricity market, a one-time system switchover was simply not an option. To overcome this barrier, a dedicated team of more than 60 specialists utilized a controlled parallel operation strategy. They gradually deployed and tested individual components within a live environment.
This transformation required the seamless migration of 72.8 million documents and reached a peak throughput exceeding one million documents per day. By navigating this massive migration with zero downtime, Unicorn Systems successfully reinforced the platform as a key enabler of efficiency across the modern energy landscape—earning two Gold Awards and one Bronze Award at the June 4 ceremony in London.
