UK electricity supplier switching reached a 2026 record with a total 362,000 changes in July, according to ElectraLink.

The numbers were up 7% from June, when changes of supplier (CoS) also hit a record 338,000. June’s figure was 41% higher than May and 48% more than the same period last year.

Within this, households drove the increase as domestic switches rose 45% in the first half of the year, before increasing another 6% to 323,000 in July.

Small and medium-sized business CoS also increased, reaching 31,000 in July, while industrial and commercial switches increased to 7,000.

ElectraLink say that switching between large suppliers accounted for the biggest share of activity. These moves represented 58% of total changes across June and July.

The figures indicate renewed consumer activity in the energy retail market.
