The French city of Limoges is planning a comprehensive overhaul of its public transport system, expanding its electric network through a combination of battery-electric buses and upgraded trolleybuses.
The Moovéo programme, developed in collaboration with local transport operator TCL, will introduce two new Bus Rapid Transit routes by 2030.
Line A will connect Beaubreuil with the University Hospital across 13.6 kilometres with services every six to nine minutes. Line B will link Val de l’Aurence and Panazol across just under 10 kilometres with frequencies of every eight to ten minutes.
Both routes will be operated exclusively by battery-electric buses, with a total fleet of 33 vehicles planned.
Limoges has operated a trolleybus network since 1943, with five existing routes currently accounting for around 50% of all passenger journeys on the network. The trolleybus system will be reorganised into four routes, designated T1 to T4, with new battery-equipped vehicles capable of operating off-wire where overhead infrastructure is absent.
Iveco Bus, through its French subsidiary Heuliez, has been awarded contracts to supply between 20 and 45 articulated electric buses alongside 13 12-metre battery-electric vehicles.
Deliveries are expected to begin in 2028 over a four-year period.
