Audi has introduced its first plug-in hybrid RS models, combining a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 with a 130kW electric motor.

The powertrain produces 639PS and 825Nm, enabling 0-62mph in 3.6 seconds and an electric-only range of up to 52 miles.

The RS 5 Saloon starts at £89,400 on the road, while the RS 5 Avant is priced from £91,300.

Both models are available to order now in three specifications: RS 5, RS 5 Carbon Black and RS 5 performance Vorsprung.

The new models mark a shift in Audi Sport’s approach, integrating electrification into its high-performance line-up while maintaining core RS characteristics such as quattro all-wheel drive and performance-focused chassis systems.

New era for Audi Sport brand

José Miguel Aparicio, Audi UK director, said: “As the first high-performance plug-in hybrid, the RS 5 marks the beginning of a new era for the Audi Sport brand.

“For decades, Vorsprung durch Technik has been demonstrated through the continued innovation of our RS models, driven by a singular focus: delivering the ultimate performance car for our customers. With the introduction of plug-in hybrid technology to the RS line-up, Audi Sport is taking usability, performance and excitement to an entirely new level.”

All versions feature an eight-speed tiptronic gearbox and a new quattro drivetrain with rear electromechanical torque vectoring

The system can distribute torque between the rear wheels in milliseconds to improve agility and handling.

Standard specification includes 20-inch alloy wheels, Matrix LED headlights, a 14.5-inch MMI touchscreen, head-up display and Bang and Olufsen 3D sound system. Higher trims add 21-inch wheels, carbon exterior detailing and upgraded lighting technology, including Digital OLED rear lights in performance Vorsprung models.

The RS 5 performance Vorsprung variants also increase top speed to 177mph and add an RS sport exhaust system.

Audi said the plug-in hybrid system can charge at up to 11kW, allowing a full recharge in around 2.5 hours.
