A new long-term renewable energy agreement between SmartestEnergy and OurCoop will provide 100% renewable electricity to more than 400 community and retail sites across the UK, supporting efforts to reduce emissions and accelerate corporate sustainability goals.
The 10-year corporate power purchase agreement (CPPA) secures up to 56GWh of renewable electricity annually.
The power will be generated by RWE and supplied through a sleeved arrangement managed by SmartestEnergy.
The deal was initially signed in 2025 with Central Co-op before its merger with Midcounties Co-operative in 2026 created the new OurCoop society.
At the time of signing, the agreement represented around 20% of Central Co-op’s electricity demand.
Five independent co-operative societies collaborated to procure energy collectively, enabling smaller organisations to access a type of renewable contract traditionally used by large corporations.
Supporters say the model could help expand renewable procurement across small and medium-sized organisations.
The agreement will supply renewable electricity to retail stores, funeral homes and community locations.
