Vauxhall has revealed pricing and specification for the new Astra and Astra Sports Tourer, with the manufacturer introducing a price parity strategy.

In a move the brand says is unique in the family car segment, the Astra hatchback and Astra Sports Tourer estate will be available at the same on-the-road price across every trim level, meaning customers can choose the larger Sports Tourer estate without paying a traditional premium over the hatchback version.

The Astra Sports Tourer offers up to 1,634 litres of load capacity with the rear seats folded down, compared with up to 1,339 litres in the hatchback.

Electrified models share same price

Vauxhall has also introduced price parity across the electrified Astra powertrain line-up meaning hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric versions are all available at the same on-the-road price across each trim level.

The Astra Electric and Astra Plug-in Hybrid both start from £29,995 on the road, representing savings of more than £5,000 compared with the outgoing models.

The fully electric Astra Electric features a new 58.3kWh battery and delivers up to 281 miles of driving range on a single charge for the hatchback, or 276 miles for the Sports Tourer (WLTP).

Plug-in hybrid versions combine a 1.6-litre petrol engine with a 17.2kWh battery to deliver up to 52 miles of electric driving range, while a 48V hybrid option provides improved efficiency without the need for charging.

Set to be available to order from June with UK deliveries from July, the Astra range is offered in three trim levels, Griffin, GS and Ultimate, with features including the Pure Panel infotainment system with a 10-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, adaptive cruise control and ergonomic Intelli-Seats made from recycled materials.
