Norway’s Brim Explorer has signed contracts to build two battery-powered trimaran passenger vessels designed to deliver high-speed, long-range sightseeing with zero emissions.
The 180-passenger vessels are scheduled for delivery in spring 2027 and will operate in some of Norway’s most environmentally sensitive destinations.
CEO and co-founder Agnes Árnadóttir said: “This is a milestone for both Brim Explorer and the Norwegian maritime industry. We are not only proving that it is possible to combine zero emissions, high speed and long range – we are developing and building the vessels in Norway, with Norwegian suppliers.”
The project is intended to showcase how low-carbon shipbuilding can support both tourism growth and long-term industrial sustainability.
Developed by Brim Tech using an “electric by design” approach, the trimarans are engineered specifically for battery propulsion rather than converted from fossil-fuel vessels. They will offer a range of 100 nautical miles at 20 knots, enabling silent, emission-free cruises that reduce air pollution and disturbance to wildlife.
