New analysis from Oxford Economics finds that Sizewell C will deliver a significant economic boost, generating £26.6bn in Gross Value Added during its construction phase.

This is equivalent to an annual average of £1.57bn injected into the UK economy.

The report concludes that the nuclear project will be a “major boost” to the East of England, with Suffolk set to benefit most.

By 2050, the county’s GVA is expected to be 22% higher than baseline projections, outperforming growth across the national economy and all 12 other UK regions.

Oxford Economics also estimates that Sizewell C will sustain an average of 8,800 direct and indirect jobs each year throughout construction.

These roles span construction, engineering and supply chain services across the UK, reflecting the project’s nationwide reach.

The nuclear power station is forecast to generate £34.6bn in tax revenue over its full operational life.

Analysts say this long-term fiscal contribution will support public services and reduce reliance on volatile global energy markets.

Sizewell C’s economic influence extends beyond headline figures. The report highlights that large-scale infrastructure provides stable employment and encourages investment in local skills.

Suffolk’s projected outperformance is linked to training programmes and long-term contracts expected to develop around the project.

The findings arrive at a critical moment for energy strategy. With electricity demand set to rise sharply through electrification of transport and heating, policymakers view nuclear as a key component of a secure low carbon mix.

Sizewell C is designed to deliver reliable baseload power for more than 60 years.

Construction of Sizewell C is expected to stimulate further regional regeneration, with improved transport links and supply chain opportunities forecast to continue well beyond the build phase.

Oxford Economics notes that these wider benefits will support stronger productivity and resilience across the East of England.
