On 25th November 2025, POWWR teamed up with Energy Live News for an interactive webinar exploring Market Wide Half Hourly Settlement (MHHS) − one of the UK energy sector’s most significant changes in recent years. Our session brought together suppliers, brokers, industry bodies and end-users to break down the basics, examine the impacts, and chart the course ahead.
Understanding MHHS: The Basics
Market Wide Half Hourly Settlement (MHHS) represents a major shift in how electricity consumption is measured and accounted for across the UK. This move is more than just a technical upgrade; it’s central to Ofgem’s directive to drive the energy market towards Net Zero. The settlement process is transitioning from profiling non-half hourly meters (like traditional domestic and small business setups) to capturing actual consumption data every 30 minutes.
Why MHHS Matters
MHHS isn’t just about compliance, it’s about opportunity. The transition will have a broad impact:
- Suppliers will face new challenges in pricing, data management, and customer engagement.
- Third Party Intermediaries (TPIs) and Brokers will need to adapt to new software and processes.
- End Users will see more accurate billing, potential for tailored tariffs, and a bigger role in the Net Zero journey.
Our own David Sheldrake emphasised that “data is probably the most important part of enabling market wide half hourly.” Accurate, timely data unlocks not only operational efficiency but also the innovation needed for a greener, more responsive energy market.
Supplier and Broker Perspectives
At POWWR, we’re proud to support both suppliers and energy brokers through this transition. Over 1,400 UK brokers already use our platforms to run price comparisons, manage portfolios, and stay ahead in a changing market. We discussed how our solutions − and similar industry tools − are evolving to meet the demands of MHHS. Ensuring flexibility and compliance without sacrificing simplicity.
Ofgem’s Directive and the Road to Net Zero
The MHHS initiative has roots in Ofgem’s vision for a decarbonised, consumer-focused energy market. This is not just a regulatory requirement but a step toward more transparent, accurate, and flexible energy systems that empower customers and curb emissions.
A Changing Landscape for All
While our webinar focused mainly on suppliers and TPIs, we encouraged participation from all corners of the industry, including end users. Whether you’re running a business or managing a household, understanding MHHS is vital as it shapes future energy offerings and supports the UK’s Net Zero ambitions.
Your Questions
Throughout the webinar, questions flowed in from attendees. We addressed what these changes mean practically, what tools are available, and how to prepare for MHHS implementation. Our team is committed to making resources and recommendations available[MB1] , helping you navigate this complex but exciting new energy landscape.
