Businesses such as EV charge point operators and housing developers will gain wider access to authorised network data under new guidance from Energy Networks Association (ENA).

The Network Shared Licensing Agreement enables trusted third parties to use capacity information and detailed asset maps on conditional terms in a standardised way.

ENA says the framework will help networks and partners plan a more efficient energy system, cutting operating costs and passing savings to bill payers.

It builds on the existing Network Open Licensing Agreement that governs non-sensitive data sharing.

The move is a step forward in digitalising the energy sector.

Innovators can design and scale new products without legal delays or inconsistent processes, while security controls keep sensitive data protected and support the net zero transition.

Abbas Mahmood, Head of Data and Digitalisation at ENA, said: “The Network Shared Licensing Agreement is just one step towards a smarter digital energy system, which will ultimately ensure consistent access to information for customers and stakeholders, and improved efficiency and greater transparency around discussions that affect customers.”

To reflect the evolving data landscape, ENA members have also refreshed the Data Triage Playbook.

This sets a standardised approach to data sharing so participants can access valuable insights like network congestion locations more quickly and consistently.

The agreement between electricity and gas companies defines secure sharing terms that comply with regulation.

It is aimed at improving coordination, enhancing efficiency, and accelerating the shift to a smarter, low carbon energy system.
