Gwynt Glas Floating Offshore Wind Farm has signed an Agreement for Lease with The Crown Estate, marking a major step toward delivering up to 1.5 GW of clean power.

The agreement follows Gwynt Glas being named a preferred bidder in June 2025 and enables the project to enter its formal development phase.

Planned within a developable area in Welsh waters around 40 km from the nearest coastline, Gwynt Glas would rank among the largest floating offshore wind projects globally.

The scheme reinforces the UK’s leadership in floating technology and will support energy security, decarbonisation, and regional supply chains as it progresses through design, consent, and procurement.

The project team has already invested more than three years in early work to maximise local benefits. A key focus is skills. Since 2022, Gwynt Glas has supported the award winning Destination Renewables programme with Pembrokeshire College, Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum, and DP Energy, engaging more than 200 students to build a future green workforce.

Mark Hazelton, Director of Gwynt Glas, said: “This project showcases the UK’s leadership in floating offshore wind technology and will create significant opportunities for skills development, apprenticeships, and employment.”

In the coming months, Gwynt Glas will undertake detailed site studies and engage stakeholders to inform project design ahead of statutory consultation and consent applications.
