Tandem Bank has passed the £800 million mark in home improvement lending, with the bulk of that cash funding green upgrades like solar panels, insulation and heat pumps.

The scaling digital lender says more than 165,000 customers have taken out loans for sustainable home improvements since 2019, with 94% of the total lending value supporting low-carbon tech and energy efficiency.

It marks a sharp rise for Tandem, whose home improvement lending has grown 11-fold in five years — from just over £68 million in 2019 to more than £800 million today.

Among the upgrades backed:

  • 21,000 solar panel installations – up 40x since 2019
  • More than 104,000 energy-efficient boilers financed
  • Heat pumps have seen 58x growth
  • Uptake in doors, windows and insulation upgrades also rising steadily

The bank, launched in 2014, has positioned itself as a green finance specialist, offering loans for eco-home improvements and vehicles, as well as EPC-linked mortgages and green savings accounts.
