Peel Ports Clydeport has welcomed its largest-ever wind turbines to King George V Dock in Glasgow, underlining the port’s growing role in Scotland’s renewable energy drive.

The delivery of six turbines, each with 80.5-metre blades, follows a £3 million investment in new infrastructure designed to handle oversized cargo.

The turbines, shipped from China aboard the BBC Raise, have been transported to a major wind farm in Ayrshire.

Their arrival was enabled by the port’s new egress road and upgraded terminal facilities, which improve efficiency and allow direct access to Scotland’s road network.

Jim McSporran, port director at Peel Ports Clydeport, said: “Welcoming the largest wind turbines we’ve ever handled at King George V Dock marks a major milestone for Peel Ports Clydeport and underlines our growing role in Scotland’s renewable energy journey.”

The facility handled a record number of components in 2024 and expects to process more than 100 turbines and 800 components in the coming year.
