Booked your flight, packed your bags… but what about the emissions from your hotel stay?
Sustainable Travel International- a not for profit – has just added hotels to its carbon calculator so you can now track and offset the carbon footprint of your entire trip — not just the travel bits.
Whether you’re crashing in a cosy B&B or checking into a swanky five-star, the upgraded tool lets you plug in your destination, star rating and length of stay to estimate your overnight emissions.
It’s quick, simple and uses the latest global hotel data to keep things accurate without giving you a headache.
Paloma Zapata, CEO of Sustainable Travel International said: “Accommodations are an integral part of the travel experience, and incorporating them into our calculator creates a more complete solution for travelers and the tourism industry to manage their carbon liability.”
This hotel feature joins a growing list of emissions sources already covered by the calculator, including commercial flights, private jets, cars, yachts, cruises and even liveaboards.
While the hotel industry works to clean up its act — it needs to slash emissions by 66% by 2030 and 90% by 2050 — offsetting helps cover the gap.
Businesses aren’t left out either. There’s a toolkit for hotels, tour operators and corporate travel planners who want to measure, reduce and offset emissions at scale.
