Vermont cheese producer Crowley Cheese, which calls itself the country’s “oldest continuously operating cheesemaker,” announced Tuesday that it is going up for sale.
Galen and Jill Jones, which have owned and operated the historic Healdville, Vermont, company since 2009, are preparing to retire, the company said in a statement. The announcement invited interested parties to contact the owners directly.
“Preserving the integrity of Crowley’s recipe and the authenticity of its historic factory has always guided our work,” Galen Jones said in the statement. “But it’s time for fresh leadership to shepherd Crowley into its third century. With so much potential for growth, we believe the best chapters are still ahead.”
Crowley began commercial production in 1824 but traces its cheesemaking roots to the late 1700s.
