The Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC) and newcleo have announced a strategic collaboration to explore nuclear energy projects.
The agreement is based on using newcleo’s innovative Lead-Cooled Fast Reactor (LFR) technology, such a partnership marks a significant step towards advancing sustainable energy solutions worldwide.
ENEC, known for its expertise in nuclear energy, has successfully completed the UAE’s largest clean electricity project, the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant.
Meanwhile, newcleo brings to the partnership a pioneering approach with its European LFR technology, backed by extensive research and development.
The two companies will explore co-investment opportunities and develop strategies to enhance the lifecycle of nuclear reactors and the sustainability of nuclear fuel resources. This initiative aligns with ENEC’s goal to diversify and decarbonise its energy portfolio and newcleo’s mission to innovate nuclear technology for cleaner energy production.
The collaboration will focus on potential projects in Europe and examine how LFR technology can reduce carbon emissions in hard-to-abate sectors like data centres and hydrogen production .
The partnership is poised to set a new standard in nuclear energy development, combining operational excellence with cutting-edge technology to address the urgent need for sustainable energy solutions.
