A third of us fail to service our boilers and face higher bills or invalidated insurance.
According to new research from MoneySuperMarket, 23% of people don’t service their boiler yearly, while 15% don’t even know how often it gets checked.
Cost is the biggest barrier, with 31% of those skipping a service citing affordability. Others admitted to forgetting (21%) or being unaware that servicing is needed (20%).
Kara Gammell, personal finance expert at MoneySuperMarket, said: “Skipping an annual boiler service to save money, could end up costing you more in the long run. Servicing your boiler helps keep it safe and running efficiently so you’re not wasting energy.”
Beyond efficiency, missing a service could mean costly repairs or rejected insurance claims. Most home insurance and boiler cover policies require regular maintenance, meaning an unserviced boiler could leave homeowners footing the bill for breakdowns.
With winter in full swing, regular servicing ensures efficiency, reduces unexpected costs and keeps homes safe.
