Cornwall has emerged as the country’s leader in heat pump installations, with more than 14,000 homes now using this technology, according to Uswitch.
In the South West region, there are nearly 12,000 air source and over 14,000 ground source heat pumps, showing that more than 5% of Cornwall’s homes have adopted the technology.
Across the UK, only 1% of households currently have heat pumps, though areas like Wiltshire and Mid Suffolk are also seeing strong growth.
By comparison, regions like Blackpool and Tamworth have some of the lowest adoption rates, with only a small number of installations, according to the report.
Ben Gallizzi, energy expert at Uswitch, commented: “Heat pumps have been slow to spread across the UK so far, with their widespread adoption being held back by high installation costs and poorly insulated housing.
“It’s good news that a quarter of a million heat pumps have already been installed across the UK, and it’s great to see Cornwall leading the way.”
