Affordable MG ZS proves itself a hit with buyers looking for SUV bargain

The SUV with the cheapest average listing price is the MG ZS, averaging £20,838, according to Uswitch car insurance.

The compact SUV that has played a big part in the resurgence of the MG brand as it pivots toward more modern vehicles.

Launched in 2017, the ZS is marketed as an affordable but feature-rich compact SUV, appealing to buyers looking for value without compromising on modern amenities. 

The second cheapest SUV model is a Dacia Duster, with an average price of £20,943. There are over 90,000 licensed Dacia Dusters and it costs an average of £175 in road tax. 

The Škoda Yeti is the third cheapest SUV model to buy in 2024, with an average price of £21,550. The vehicle costs slightly more to tax than the MG ZS and Dacia Duster at £200. However, the Škoda Yeti has a fuel economy of 49.5 MPGe. 

Further Insights from the study show that the Citroën C4 ranks as the best SUV overall, scoring 9.03 out of 10. It boasts an average new price of £23,995, a relatively modest road tax cost of £180, and a fuel economy of 56.6 mpg.

The Tesla Model Y is the most eco-friendly SUV. The Model Y has a miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) of 128.1, placing it ahead of models with hybrid variants like the Volvo XC60.

The Nissan Qashqai is the UK’s most popular SUV with 647,846 licensed vehicles.
